Pallas 100 Symposium

1st of October starting at 11.45 a.m.

Pallasians appreciated social gatherings dedicated to the muses and therefore Tartu Art Museum would like to celebrate the anniversary of the Pallas Art School with a symposium!

On the 100th anniversary of the opening the Pallas Art School on the 1st of October, Tartu Art Museum organizes a Symposium on two main themes: art education in the 20th and 21st century and career opportunities of professional female artists. It is difficult to overestimate the influence of the Pallas Art School on Estonian art in the 20th century. Just as difficult is to overestimate the effect of the Pallas legacy on art research. The exhibition “Pallas 100. Art School and Its Legend” at Tartu Art Museum and the Symposium are looking at less examined topics and new points of view to understand better one of the most important chapters of Estonian art.

The Symposium will start with a tour of the exhibition “Pallas 100. Art School and Its Legend” by curator Hanna-Liis Kont. The day includes various presentations: Art historian and curator Anu Utriainen talks about early Finnish female artists. Maarin Mürk offers an overview of today’s art education. Elvija Pohomova talks about the artist Aleksandra Beļcova. Kaspar Tamsalu will finish the day with a tour about artistic techniques from the point of view of the school and the teacher.

The event is in English.

The Symposium and the tours are free of charge.

Free art bus from Tallinn to Tartu to Tallinn. Bus leaves Tallinn at 9 am and Tartu at 6.30 pm.
